Big Blue Backpackers, Nkhata Bay

Gwyn Mzungu Dunscombe of Big Blue Backpackers writes:

Big Blue Backpackers in Nkhata Bay has replaced the old Big Blue Star due to abandonment, now owned by a local it is currently under going a massive refurbishment, with most if not all cabins being replaced by new ‘glamping’ style cabins, all the main structures have had their roofs replaced so no more problems in rainy season

There is also a new website and a new facebook page ‘bigbluebackpackers’

All in all the place is looking to return to its former glory days, and guests are starting to return in good numbers

We stayed at Big Blue in July 2017 and although very friendly, secure and a good location, it was very run-down. There was no running water so the staff delivered buckets for cooking, laundry, etc. – and the site is right by the lake for swimming. There was no wi-fi. Access for vehicles is along a very narrow track and difficult for 2WD.
