We camped at the newly started Liwonde Safari Camp run by Pieter and his Dutch partner – very good food, hot bucket showers, great bar and plenty of game in the park. Highly recommended. When leaving Lilongwe, we found it hard to find the M14 to Salima – its marked as a big road on [...]

General Comments We loved Malawi. It was very ‘easy’ Africa. By this we mean that there was relatively little hassle and the people were friendly. The roads up to the Nyika Plateau and Vwaza Marsh are not great, but are passable with a 4×4. Incidentally, we did get stopped a lot by the police, but [...]

And never take the Mohamed Couch Bus Company from Lilongwe to Dar Es Salaam… the bus is old, and the drivers without any responsibility, they make no toilet-stops but they stop more than 20 hour on the border without telling anything (I discover that this is usual – because of business people trying to cross [...]

It seemed to me that all hotels are B&B. While it’s certainly worth checking first, I never stayed in one that wasn’t, and the breakfast was never mentioned…they just assumed you knew. There’s a range of qualities–the 10,500K Mzuzu Lodge had 2 eggs as you like (including spanish omelets), sausage, a big chunk of baked tomato, potatoes, toast on request [...]

Tracey Dettmer sent me this article in Aug ’08 Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, one year on…… In July 2007, the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre (LLWC) opened its doors to the general public for just three days a week, in order to give those interested in the Centre an opportunity of seeing what was being created.  One year [...]
